Gaddafi
tried to establish a supranational currency, the gold dinar, which would have
unified Africa under the same currency, pushing it away from private central
banks and debts. Support was widespread, but the revolutions of the 2011 Arab
Spring in North Africa and the assassination of Gaddafi stopped this project.
