Post-traumatic
stress disorder (PTSD) is the strong psychological suffering that follows a
traumatic, catastrophic or violent event. The diagnosis of PTSD requires that
symptoms are always the consequence of a critical event. But having experienced
a critical event does not automatically generate a post-traumatic disorder. It
is also known as war neurosis, because it was initially found in soldiers
involved in heavy fighting or dramatic war situations.
