Therapies
for the treatment of depression are mostly symptomatic, based on antidepressant
drugs that treat the symptoms of the disease in order to improve people’s
everyday lives. Antidepressants are based on the idea of normalizing the
altered balance of serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine and can be divided
into three main categories: tricyclic antidepressants (TCA), monoamine oxidase
inhibitors (MAOI) and tricyclic antidepressants of the second generation.
